League

LAPL SEASON 12 starts up Tuesday March 19, 2013! Again, we’re at pretty full capacity, though we can always squeeze in a few more. Email pinsandneedlesla@gmail.com for further information. We play match play for eight weeks and then a final, and boy is it ever fun. All levels welcome!

UPDATE: my gosh, a lot more folks showed up this season than expected! I think we’re pretty much full-up, though a couple more pinheads can squeeze in, I suppose. Email pinsandneedlesla@gmail.com right away if you want to join us; only a spot or two remain!

LAPL is happy to announce the start date for Season 11: Tuesday January 8. We’re going to kick off 2013 right proper, with flips, laughs, and some post-holiday merrymaking.

A lot of people ask “how good they need to be to join”. Listen, LA; you don’t have to be good at all! I can pretty much guarantee that even if you’ve never pressed a flipper button in your life, you’ll still have a blast. We have a novice division. The LA Pinball League is in place more to celebrate the fun social aspects of the hobby; we have great players but there’s enough of a chance factor to pinball for it to be anyone’s game.

It’s a great way to meet some new chums! Revel in the nerdery with us! There’s just nothin’ else like it, so do yourself a favor and join up, or you’ll have to wait for next season!

LAPL Season 8 League Finals will be held on Tuesday August 21st at 9pm. By the end of the night, we will have established LA’s top three players in A Division as well as our top 3 in B! It’s going to b pretty exciting stuff, no matter how you slice it. Spectators, do join us!

Season 9 will commence on Tuesday September 4. Those interested are encouraged to email me at pinsandneedlesla@gmail.com for more info. All levels welcome!

UPDATE: We WILL be starting LAPL Season tomorrow! ¬†June 26th it is, guys and gals! Doors at 7pm tomorrow, sign in by 9pm, and we’ll be in brackets and playing by 9:15. We tried starting a little earlier last week during “practice week” and it prevented too many of our members from makin’ it. So we’re going to split the difference a bit and shoot for a 9:15 start.

The season will run for six weeks of match play, followed by a finals night. As always, you throw your worst score of the six out, which soothes the burn if you have to miss a week. Play-aheads are permissible provided you cancork a time out that fits my schedule. It’s looking like we’ll have both an A Division and a B Division, so don’t worry if you don’t have much experience!

Still not sure if you’re game? Just come by and see us tomorrow! I’ll tell ya, we had a girl who has barely played 25 games of pinball in her life come in and sweep second in her group…it’s casual and fun. ¬†Email me with further questions, eh? I have to run to work.

It’s that time again!

Unless we’re roadblocked by pesky remaining construction, the intended start date for our new League Season is Tuesday June 26th. The Los Angeles Pinball League has had seven great seasons of match play, and overall interest in competitive pinball seems to ratchet upward daily. Don’t miss your chance to get in on the fun! Space is limited.

We meet every Tuesday between 9-9:30 (though doors open prior for warmup time) and I put you in a bracket of either 3 or 4 players. Your group then proceeds through either 6 or 8 matches (4 player groups play 6 games; 3 player groups play 8). After your games are completed, your scoresheets are turned in to the league director (Big Molls), who will tabulate each players’ nightly numbers and voila! Rebracket for the next week.

Most of the more involved details will be determined by the final size of the group. We have always had enough interest to split into multiple divisions, so that newer players don’t have to mix it up with those who have been competing for years. But remember, you only get better when you play with people who are better than you are! Our league is quite casual and friendly; you hear a lot more gales of laughter and high-fives than you do grunts and angry fist-bashes on the games.

If you’re interested, or even partly interested, feel free to drop a line to me at pinsandneedlesla@gmail.com with queries. Or drop in any Tuesday night between now and then; Tuesday’s a real pinball night here in LA!

Get on it, though; spots are filling up fast!
